The Łukasiewicz Research Network celebrates its second birthday
1st April 2021 will mark the second anniversary of the establishment of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – the third largest research network in Europe, including the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP among many others.
The Łukasiewicz Research Network is centred around 8000 employees and 32 institutes located in 12 Polish cities. The network focuses on creating innovative solutions for micro, small, medium and large entrepreneurs and start-ups. An efficient access to know-how and competencies – that has become so important in the pandemics – provides the entrepreneurs with access to over 4,500 engineers and scientists. The Łukasiewicz network competencies are centred around the main four fields: digital transformation, intelligent mobility, health, sustainable economy and energy.
Minimum time – maximum benefits
The purpose of the Łukasiewicz Research Network is to respond to various business challenges and shorten the distance between science and commerce, made possible with a unique tool developed by the Łukasiewicz Research Network – a ‘Challenge’ model that allows the entrepreneurs to report a need for support in market activities, business development, and withing several days, to receive a proposal for a comprehensive implementation solution. Moreover, the proposal is free of charge for the applicants. Anyone interested in this type of support can report any business-related problems and challenges through the form available at https://lukasiewicz.gov.pl/biznes/.
Fighting the pandemic – #Science Shield
The institutes of Łukasiewicz Research Network have joined the fight against the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic involving many different actions including research, scientific and engineering projects developed under the aegis of #ScienceShield.
One of the examples is the agreement between the Łukasiewicz network and the National Medicines Institute on close research and scientific co-operation on the development of innovative technologies used in pharmacology. The initial common efforts are focused on the commercialisation of medical devices used in treatment of effects of COVID-19 and the development of Biodribin drug used in treatment of cancer.
Another example is the development of tools for effective monitoring and reducing the risk of pandemic spread carried out by Łukasiewicz – PORT with the most prestigious research institutes from Slovakia. Over 2 million EUR of Slovakian EU funds were assigned for the project.
Łukasiewicz – PIAP joins the fight with COVID-19 by developing a solution for easy protection of smoke detectors. The device has been developed in response to the request by Józef Struś Multispeciality Municipal Hospital in Poznań to the Łukasiewicz Research Network for the implementation of a solution to protect smoke detectors during disinfection of rooms and equipment.
Science for business, business for science
The Institute for Technology Assessment – a research unit focused on the research of benefits, risk and effects of the implementation of new technologies and the recommendation of the best directions of the technological development has been established as part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network.
Łukasiewicz INNOVATOR Index – a common enterprise of the Łukasiewicz Research Network and the Warsaw Stock Exchange – is one of the initiatives currently developed by the Łukasiewicz Research Institute. It presents and promotes listed companies developing their potential in cooperation with the Polish scientific sector represented by the Łukasiewicz network. From 12 April 2021, the stock exchange listings will be published daily.
