Lots of awards at IWIS 2019
Special award “The best domestic invention”, 4 platinum, 4 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals were awarded at the first joint presentation of the Łukasiewicz Research Network at the International Warsaw Invention Show 2019. The jury appreciated the innovation track record of over 80 scientists from nine Łukasiewicz institutes. Łukasiewicz – PIAP Institute was awarded the largest number of medals.
The International Warsaw Invention Show (IWIS), organized by the Association of Polish Inventors and Rationalizers (SPWiR), is the largest international event in Poland to promote inventiveness and innovations. Achievements of inventors from over 25 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Egypt, Iran, Canada, Malaysia, Korea, Turkey, Romania, Taiwan, and Poland, can be seen each year at the show. The Łukasiewicz brand appeared for the first time among such noteworthy exhibitors.
Innovations presented by inventors at IWIS include technical advancements that have been put into practice or are still waiting to be transferred to real-world applications. Key objectives of the show include presentation of scientific achievements of Polish scientists and inventors together with foreign solutions, and providing the inventors with opportunities to establish contacts with potential investors, which directly corresponds to Łukasiewicz’s mission and strategic objectives.
– The Łukasiewicz institutes have already competed with each other at IWIS a number of times. This year they appeared under a common brand, which was certainly noted by other exhibitors and guests during the show. Foreign guests were apparently interested in the new brand on the global innovations market. Most visitors considered the brand as having a great market potential, said Prof. Michał Szota, DSc Eng., the head of the Association of Polish Inventors and Rationalizers, which staged the IWIS show.
Best Polish invention
The central moment of the show, the award ceremony, took place 16 October at the Small Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology. The IWIS 2019 award for the best Polish invention, SPWiR’s Special Award “The Best Domestic Invention”, was won by Łukasiewicz – Institute of Precision Mechanics for “The use of cylindrical magnetron in hybrid nitriding and PVD processes” by Marek Betiuk, EngD, and Zbigniew Łataś.
13 medals for 9 institutes
As usual, IWIS 2019 awards were given in 12 categories, from ecology and environmental protection, mechanical engineering, construction, electronics and the textile and chemical industries to innovative solutions in medicine.
Platinum medals for best inventions in each category were awarded to:

– The IWIS show is a regular item in the calendar of the International Federation of Inventors Associations, joined by organisations from 104 countries. Recent solutions from over 20 countries were presented in Warsaw. IWIS also serves as a forum for sharing experiences and establishing international co-operation, and industry representatives who visit the show are interested in bringing some most promising solutions to the marketplace.
