Industrial security certificates for PIAP
The Polish Homeland Security Agency (ABW) has fully certified PIAP for its ability to protect information classified locally as “SECRET” and “CONFIDENTIAL” and identified with equivalent clauses by EU, NATO and ESA.
The Industrial Institute for Automation and Measurements (PIAP) has joined the elite of organizations holding industrial security certificates. The award of the authorization to receive and process classified information to PIAP by the Homeland Security Agency (ABW) was preceded by a few months of thorough verification and audits.
Verification procedure
The verification procedure of ABW checked PIAP’s compliance with requirements related to the processing of classified information in two ways. The Department of Telecom Security evaluated the classified information processing station and related documents: the Classified Information Protection Plan (including the Threat Analysis), Safe Operation Procedures and the Special Security Requirements (including the Risk Assessment). Then, the Classified Information Protection Department evaluated compliance of the Classified Information Office and documents including the Plan for Organization of the International Classified Information Office, Policy of the International Classified Information Office and the Policy of the Reading Room of the International Classified Information Office.
Authorizations granted
The procedures for the grant of industrial security certificates concluded successfully and ABW granted PIAP the requested authorizations in February 2018. Today, PIAP holds the following certificates:
- Industrial security certificate of the first class – domestic;
- Industrial security certificate of the first class – European (EU);
- Industrial security certificate of the first class – NATO;
- Industrial security certificate of the first class – ESA.
Secrecy clauses
The four industrial security certificates held by PIAP are the highest-ranking ones (first class). They testify that PIAP is fully qualified to protect classified information and enable PIAP to compete for, and deliver, contracts involving access to information classified as
- “SECRET” and “CONFIDENTIAL”;
- “EU SECRET” and „EU CONFIDENTIAL”;
- “NATO SECRET” and “NATO CONFIDENTIAL”;
- “ESA SECRET” and “ESA CONFIDENTIAL”.
The certificates were given for 7 years for the SECRET-type information and for 10 years for the CONFIDENTIAL-type information.
